BMW tyre change
Most modern BMWs sold in the UAE run on run-flat tyres and have no spare wheel, so a puncture is handled by driving gently to a fitter or calling a mobile service. BMW-approved tyres carry a star marking on the sidewall, and run-flats are labelled RSC, SSR, ZP or ROF depending on the brand.

Many BMWs also use staggered sizes, such as 225/45 R18 front and 255/40 R18 rear on a 3 Series M Sport, or 275/40 R21 front and 305/35 R21 rear on an X5 M Sport. That means rears wear faster and cannot be rotated forward. Owners can switch to non-run-flat tyres for a softer ride, but then need a sealant kit or spare, and the car's TPMS must stay active.
- Most BMWs have no spare; a mobile service can fit or repair a run-flat on site.
- Star-marked tyres are approved by BMW and are the closest match to the original.
- Run-flats can usually be driven about 80 km at up to 80 km/h after a puncture.
- Staggered rears often wear out in 20,000 to 30,000 km on M Sport models.

FAQ
Questions drivers ask us
Do BMWs come with a spare tyre?
Most modern BMWs do not. They rely on run-flat tyres, which let you drive about 80 km at up to 80 km/h after a puncture.
Can I replace BMW run-flats with normal tyres?
Yes. The ride usually becomes softer and quieter, but you should carry a sealant kit or space-saver spare, since there is no spare well in many models.
What does the star on a BMW tyre mean?
The star shows the tyre has been tested and approved by BMW for that model.
What tyre size does a BMW X5 use?
The G05 X5 commonly uses 275/45 R20 front and 305/40 R20 rear, or 275/40 R21 front and 305/35 R21 rear on M Sport wheels. Some trims use a square 265/50 R19 setup.
