Performance
BFGoodrich's performance is measured off-road first: the KO2 and KO3 give excellent traction on sand, gravel and rock, with interlocking tread blocks and serrated shoulders that bite when aired down. On dry tarmac they are stable and predictable, though steering is slower than a road tyre.
Wet tarmac is the weak point; KO2 braking distances in the rain are longer than road-biased all-terrains, so drivers should leave extra gap on the rare wet UAE winter days.
Durability
Durability is BFGoodrich's defining trait. The KO2 commonly lasts 60,000–80,000 km on UAE 4x4s with rotation every 8,000–10,000 km, and the KO3 is claimed by the maker to improve tread life further. The three-ply sidewall resists punctures from sharp rocks and thorny desert scrub.
The main enemy is heat when driven aired-down: running at 15 PSI on hot tarmac can damage the carcass, so reinflate before leaving the sand.
In UAE conditions
BFGoodrich is the most common tyre at UAE desert meet-ups in Al Badayer, Liwa and Fossil Rock for good reason: the KO2 and KO3 float well on dunes at 12–18 PSI and survive rocky wadis without sidewall cuts. On the E11 and E311 at 120 km/h they are stable, though louder than a highway tyre.
In summer, check pressures cold before a desert trip, carry a compressor, and never drive aired-down on the highway. For Land Cruiser 300 owners who rarely leave the tarmac, a highway-terrain tyre will be quieter and cheaper.
Typical price per tyre
