Family MPVs such as the Kia Carnival, Toyota Innova and Hyundai Staria are different: they use passenger tyres, usually XL, in sizes like 235/55 R19 or 215/55 R17, chosen for comfort and quiet with seven or eight people on board.
Vans are the backbone of UAE logistics, school transport and staff transport, so downtime costs money. We fit van tyres at depots, labour camps and offices across Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah, including early-morning and late-night slots.
C-rated tyres: what the C means
A C-rated tyre, marked with a C after the rim size as in 215/70 R15C, has a stronger carcass designed to run at higher pressure and carry commercial loads. It carries two load indexes, for example 109/107, the first for single fitment and the second for twin rear wheels.
A passenger tyre in the same size might only have a load index of 98, which is roughly 250 kg less per tyre. On a loaded van that difference is the margin between a safe tyre and a blowout on the E311 in August.
Fleet vans: cost per kilometre
For a fleet van covering 4,000 to 6,000 km a month, the best measure is cost per kilometre, not purchase price. A premium commercial tyre that lasts 80,000 km usually works out cheaper than a budget tyre that lasts 45,000 km and needs more puncture call-outs.
We can set up regular pressure and tread checks for fleets, and we work around shift patterns so vans are not off the road during working hours.
Family MPVs: comfort with seven on board
A family MPV such as a Kia Carnival or Toyota Innova spends most of its life loaded with people, so an XL touring tyre with a quiet tread is the right choice. Check the placard for the full-load pressure and use it before long trips to Hatta, Fujairah or Oman.
MPVs are also heavy on their front tyres because of the engine weight and front-wheel drive, so rotation every 10,000 km helps the set wear evenly.
Technician tips
- Never fit passenger tyres to a commercial van that carries cargo.
- Check van pressures weekly; high-pressure tyres lose air faster in heat.
- Use the full-load pressure on MPVs before long family trips.
- Do not overload; the dual load index is a maximum, not a guide.
- Rotate every 10,000 km to make the set last longer.
- Keep a correctly inflated spare; vans are often far from help.
